It's really easy to under or over estimate the size of your space when it comes to selecting the right lighting for your home. Our lighting experts are all trained in using different methods to determine the proper size of a fixture, how much light your room requires, spacing and placement of fixtures, and so on.
One trick we like to use when determining the size of a fixture in a room is by adding the length and the width of the room (in feet). We then take that number, and use that as that approximate diameter of the fixture (in inches).
Here's an example: Let's use a foyer that is 10' by 12'
10 + 12 = 22.
This tells us that a fixture with a diameter of 22" would be suited for that space. Yes, we know this is not "proper math"! We like to keep it simple, and this little calculation really helps.
Keep in mind that this trick is just a guideline. Other factors such as ceiling height have to be considered as well, however this is definitely a good starting point to get you thinking of the size of your space.
