Kitchens are the heart of the home! We use this room as the hub of our home - spending time with family, socializing with friends, even paying bill! It goes without question that lighting in a kitchen is an extremely important feature, not only for ascetics, but also for safety and function.
There are many ways to light a kitchen, however generally the most decorative lighting in your kitchen is your island fixtures, generally in the form of multiple pendant lights. Pendants should be installed so that the bottom of the shade is approximately 66" above the floor so it is possible to look across the room below the pendants.
As a starting point, you should allow for one pendant for every two feet of counter space and try to use an odd number of pendants to create better balance (groupings of 3 or 5, depending on island size and fixture size)
It's on-trend to use over-sized pendants or chandeliers over your island. This may be three large glass pendants closer together, or 2 smaller chandeliers. Again, these are guidelines, and our experts will be able to help you strategically select lighting that fits both your space and your style preferences!
